Let’s be honest, thinking about how to clean your makeup brushes is not the first thing you think about when you’re taking care of a bustling household!  But it’s important nonetheless to clean your makeup brushes!

Think about the oil, dirt and bacteria that can accumulate on your brushes over time!  Dirty brushes leave you prone to breakouts, can lead to clogged pores, and can spread bacteria.   Your makeup brushes are an imperative step to having great makeup.  Cleaning your brushes regularly will condition them, helping them last a very long time!

 

Pro Tip:  NEVER share your makeup brushes with anyone without washing them in between uses!  Coming in contact with your own germs & bacteria is one thing, but exposing yourself to someone else’s is a completely
different story!

How to clean your makeup brushes

I use Micellar Water  to clean my brushes!  Micellar Water Cleanses skin of dirt, oil & impurities and will do the same for your makeup brushes!  

Step 1:  Pour some of the Micellar Cleansing Water into a jar or glass.

Step 2: Work with the shape of your brush – Swipe a flat brush back & forth or Swirl a round brush in the micellar water.  Be careful not to get the brush wet where the bristles meet the handle.  This can loosen the glue over time.

The makeup, oil, & bacteria will melt away into the micellar water.  If it’s been a while since you have cleaned your brush, you may want to dump the dirty micellar water and repeat as needed.  

It is ideal to clean foundation/face brushes weekly and brushes used around the eyes twice a month, but we all know this isn’t going to happen in real life! Clean your brushes as often as possible, once a month at minimum!

Step 3:  Finally, with the bristles pointing downward, rinse the bristles in lukewarm water. Continue to be careful not to get the handle wet. Squeeze out excess water and lay over the top of the glass or jar to dry over night.
